On May 4, 2023, the Ceremonial Opening of the International Scientific Conference dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of Academicians Irakli Gamkrelidze and David Shengelia and the Plenary Meeting of the scientific session was held in the Assembly Hall of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. The event was organized by the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Alexandre Janelidze Institute of Geology.

The Jubilee Session was opened by the President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences Giorgi Kvesitadze. Director of the Alexandre Janelidze Institute of Geology Tamara Tsutsunava spoke in detail about the scientific activity of Academician Irakli Gamkrelidze. Nodar Poporadze, Head of the Applied Department of the Mining and Geological Faculty of the Technical University of Georgia presented the scientific life of Academician David Shengelia. Representatives of institutions of geology and the related fields gave congratulatory speech.

On May 5, the work of the Scientific Session was continued in the Presidium Meeting Hall. 26 scientific reports were presented at the Conference. Abstract book in Georgian and English has been published.

The final event of the Conference an anniversary dinner was held.
